Wedding Photography Poses

There are many different wedding photography poses you can use on your special day. It is the job of the photographer to tell you how to stand or sit for your photos. Many photographers have a certain repertoire of poses they do for their clients. If you have a certain pose that you would like to use be sure to speak up and tell your photographer. Wedding photographers are professionals and although they have their own way of doing things their ultimate goal should be to please the client. If you want a particular type of wedding photo tell them and they should be able to accommodate you.

While everyone is important to the wedding photos in their own way, the most important person is the bride. Brides spend lots of money and time to achieve a perfect look on their wedding day and it is important to capture it properly. The most flattering angle for photographing the bride is at a slight angle. Rather than photographing her straight-on, having her stand at a slight angle and hold her head at a slight tilt while facing the camera is the most flattering angle. When photographing the bride and groom together there are many appealing options. The groom can stand facing the camera and the bride can lean into him slightly.

There are traditional poses and more casual poses. Traditional poses look just that -- posed. There are various traditional poses that are often used, including photos of the bride, bride and groom together, wedding party and family of the couple. Casual poses are more candid and artistic. One example of a more casual pose would be a picture of the bride sitting on the floor with her dress billowing around her, taken from a higher angle. Or a picture of the bride and groom in a smiling embrace, looking at each other rather than at the camera.

Google Images is a great tool that you can use to find lots of wedding pictures and review the many poses that can be done. How far in advance should I book a photographer for my wedding?

Many photographers recommend booking a photographer as soon as you get engaged, or at least until you know the wedding date. It is suggested that the engaged couple book 8-12 months in advance because many studios book wedding dates quickly. Weddings are more prominent from May to October when the weather is most favorable. If you choose to hold your wedding within this period, the photographer you choose will likely require a non-refundable deposit or retainer fee to hold your wedding date. This ensures that you will have this studio or photographer on your desired date, as well as securing a job for your photographer. The sooner you book your photographer, the more likely you are to be able to work with your first choice.
