Choosing between wedding photography studios is an important part of planning your wedding. There are several things you need to consider when shopping for a photographer. Your budget is one important consideration. It is important to find a photographer you can afford. You will also need to select a photographer based on their style. Many brides have a distinct idea of how they want their wedding photos to look. You want a photographer whose own vision matches your own. Personality of the photographer is yet another aspect that must be considered. You don't want a photographer whose demeanor makes you uncomfortable or the pictures likely won't be their best.

On the subject of personality, you will get a good idea of a photographer's personality when you meet with them for the first time. The initial meeting will answer many questions for you. You will learn if the photographer can make your vision of the perfect wedding pictures a reality. You will get to see the work they've done in the past. And, you will discover whether or not you feel comfortable in their presence. You will be nervous enough on your wedding day, you don't want to hire a photographer who makes you even more so. A good photographer can coax certain traits from their subjects. You want someone who you feel comfortable and relaxed so that your joy and love shines through in the photographs.

When you meet with a photography studio you will not only get to talk about what you want with the photographer, you will learn more about the various packages that are available. Most studios have a variety of different packages to suit various preferences. You may discuss the packages with the photographer or there may be another person who specializes in selling the packages. Be forewarned that they will most likely try to talk you into a bigger package than the one you choose. Some studios are more aggressive sales-wise than others.

Meeting with wedding photography studios should be done as early as possible because many photographers stay busy and you want to make sure they will be available for your big day. A good rule of thumb is to reserve your photographer at least six months before your wedding. You will most likely be required to put down a deposit which is a partial payment on the total cost of your photographs.

How far in advance should I book a photographer for my wedding?

Many photographers recommend booking a photographer as soon as you get engaged, or at least until you know the wedding date. It is suggested that the engaged couple book 8-12 months in advance because many studios book wedding dates quickly. Weddings are more prominent from May to October when the weather is most favorable. If you choose to hold your wedding within this period, the photographer you choose will likely require a non-refundable deposit or retainer fee to hold your wedding date. This ensures that you will have this studio or photographer on your desired date, as well as securing a job for your photographer. The sooner you book your photographer, the more likely you are to be able to work with your first choice.
